I went into the race with a completely open mind. I liked my target time of 6-6.5 hours because a) it was respectable and, b) it meant I’d be off the bike in 6-6.5 hours, and that sounded like plenty.

Workout
Just an easy-ish ride to work, via creche, with Claire in the trailer. About 35 minutes each way.
Food
3 eggs in butter + olive oil, a plum, some blueberries and a few almonds
Coffee
Fruit salad and muesli w yoghurt (natural)
Ferrero rochere chocolate
Apple, almonds
Almond cookie (it was free!)

Up early and out to the Youyangs with one simple goal in mind: climb at least one third of the vertical gain I’ll encounter at the Odyssey — 1,000m.
